Reducing our Environmental Impact
We are sure that you'll agree that every little bit helps when trying to reduce our impact on the planet.
So ...
o In accordance
with the recommendations by
the 'Love
Your Lakes' campaign we
have decided that the B&B should
be Phosphate Free. So the soaps
and detergents we use for laundry,
and in the dishwashers, are
not putting traces of environmentally
unfriendly chemicals in to
the already fragile water courses.
We feel that we all have a
responsibility to preserve
and protect this wonderful
natural environment and what
better way than to lead by
example?
o We recycle
as much waste from the B&B
as possible.
o We buy most of our produce locally to reduce food miles.
o We use low
energy bulbs, where possible,
throughout the guesthouse (although
unfortunately not all the fittings
can accept them).
o We have
recently installed PIRs for
the landing lights and the
porch area - this not only
makes sense economically but
it also makes for a better
experience for you when you
are staying at the B&B.
o We generally
start with the guest rooms
comfortably cool. It is easier
(and better) to warm a room
up than to start with it hot
and open the window to cool
it down.
o We have the heating on from breakfast until mid morning and then again from late afternoon in to the evening. If it gets a tad chilly we will obviously boost the heating but we endeavour to only use what we need.
o All the radiators and towel rails have thermostatic controls so that when your room reaches the temperature that you want then you don't overheat or waste energy.
o All rooms have double glazed windows to keep you warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.
o We only
wash towels as and when required
during your stay at the B&B.
If you hang them we leave them
- if you find that they need
a wash then simply put them
in the shower tray and we'll
provide fresh ones for you.
o The complimentary
tea trays in the rooms are
stocked with Fair Trade coffee,
tea and sugar.
o We provide
luxury liquid soap, shampoo
and shower gel for you to use
during your stay. It is of
very high quality from The
Soap Co rather than small
bars of soap that generally
get thrown away.
o We encourage guests to take walks that can be done from the Guest House (Skiddaw, Latrigg, Walla Crag, Ashness Bridge, Friars Crag, Derwentwater, Cat Bells). It is so much more satisfying when you don't have to use your car.
o As a further
incentive whilst staying at
the B&B we offer tickets
for the Keswick Launch at a
discounted rate.
